Stereo issues HELP

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but i am having trouble installing a a stereo in my 92 240sx. The kid i bought it from said he didnt have the deck hooked up because he didnt listen to the radio. So when i went to plug it up it wouldnt turn on. I tested for voltage coming from the stock stereo harness and got tiny readings like .1V or .7V but that was it. So i checked the audio fuse under the steering column and it was fine. I then ran a separate power wire to the deck from a 12V power supply in the fuse box thinking that the power wire was bad, and the deck still wont turn on. I have no idea what to do now, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

is the harness cut? you need to check these wires with a test light.

reb/black - 12V
blue - Ignition

and nissan doesnt have a ground for radios so you have to ground it to the chassis. you cant just give it power and expect it to turn on.

What besTint said is true...240's don't have a ground. That is why even if you ran another source of power you still would'nt get power. The antenna wire acts as a ground in 240's so if you don't have the antenna plugged in to the aftermarket deck it won't work. If not you can just ground the wire to the chassis.

try wiring in the 12v constant wire along with the power/ground
see if that does anything

the 12v constant is the memory wire isnt it. so presents and equalizer would go back to default everytime i shut my car off.

what exactly does a deck need to turn on? is it just power and ground? or do you need a signal wire to?
