Ok so my car failed smog and it says on the paper that my car is a gross polluter. I wasnt told why it didnt pass other than its running rich and on my paper it says... This vehicle failed the ignition timing check due to engine rpm being out of tolerance.... any1 know what the heck that means and what i can do to fix it.

Not typically... A friend with the right tools should be able to help, but a diagnosis should be done. What does your car idle at? What engine is it?

to pass smog; Get a major tune up > Cap & Rotor, spark plugs, plug wires, upstream oxygen sensor (replace to fix running rich), adjust timing to stock, get a new catalytic converter and exhaust piping, inspect and replace any cracked leaking fuel hoses; run seafoam to thru brake vac line to reduce HC levels.. after u do all that you should be able to pass smog
