Am I the only one who thinks a lot of these new cars (especially the new Hyundai) are as ugly as hell?
I can probably count on one hand, the amount of new concepts and coming models etc. I've seen, that I actually REALLY liked. lol

New info on the 86...Oh and the the Subaru version. That's right, there's gonna be a Subaru RWD Coupe!
http://www.motorauthority.com/cars/t...ru-sports-car/ New reports have emerged from Japan confirming that Toyota is working on a new low cost sports car scheduled to go on sale before the end of the decade and priced around two million yen (US$16,780). Toyota will build the car with help from Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru’s parent company), who the Asahi newspaper reports will be providing one of its trademark boxer engines. Toyota bought a small 8.7% stake in Fuji back in 2005 and has since supplied it with small cars built by its Daihatsu subsidiary. This new project will see Fuji return the favor with the supply of a 2.0L horizontally opposed engine, which was chosen because of its lower center of gravity, low cost and smoothness. Earlier reports gave some vital details about the car including its size, which is expected to be under 4m in length and 1.7m across. Final output is said to be around 120hp in a body that’ll tip the scales at just 1,000kg. The new model would be a spiritual successor to the AE86 (pictured above), which was immortalized in the anime series Initial D. Subaru fans were initially disappointed that Toyota’s involvement would make the company boring but it looks like the opposite will be true. Considering the Toyota group has no pure sports car, this would be a good entry level model to spur more interest in the brand. Autoblog: A report in Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper states that Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru's parent) are mulling over the possibility of jointly developing what many have been referring to as the successor to the classic AE86. The entry-level sports car would be branded as a Toyota but would feature a FHI-sourced boxer engine of 2.0 liters or less underhood. As far as pricing, the goal would be to keep the car at ¥2,000,000 or lower. Asahi says that the car would target a 2010 release (not 2008, as previously reported by Japan's Best Car magazine) and that talks between the two entities won't commence in earnest until this Fall. The Asahi report comes in the wake of the aforementioned Best Car magazine story, which also said Fuji Heavy would factor into the equation, but that a price of ¥1,500,000 was the target. While the two outlets differ on some of the specifics, the basic stories match up, and you know the saying: "Where there's smoke..." In other news, Asahi reports that Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu will begin supplying its Coo compact wagon (a.k.a. Toyota bB) to Fuji Heavy, and that a Subaru-branded version should go on sale in Japan next summer.

Monday morning RWD Coupe Update!
More info on the next Silvia/240. TURBO MF'S! ![]() Japan's top two auto makers have a long and sordid history of ripping off each other's successful designs. No sooner had the Nissan Cube become a run away success in its home market than Toyota came up with the similarly boxy bB (Scion xB). Many years earlier, after the Toyota HiLux Surf (4Runner) proved a hit with, well, surfers, Nissan restyled their Terrano with nigh on identical lines, hoping to ride on the coattails of the Toyota. And let's not get in to the Supra vs. Z and Celica vs. Skyline wars. Now, just weeks after confirming that Toyota does indeed have a successor to the lauded AE86 in the pipeline, Best Car magazine claims to have evidence that Nissan has got a team working on building a new Silvia. Like the final 2002 S15 Spec R Silvia the new car is reckoned to be powered by a turbocharged two-liter good for 247 HP, but will just be 10 kgs heavier at one and a quarter metric tons (2450lbs). The new range should sell for between 2.5 and 2.8 million Yen ($21,000 - $23,700), but not until 2010. Best Car's scoop ties in nicely with photographs of a shortened Z, most likely a mule testing a new, smaller FR drive train, taken at the ring earlier in the summer. If the new Silvia is indeed to be based on a modified Z/Skyline LM platform, expect a similar wheelbase of 8' 6", but smaller overall dimensions, around 14' 4" long by 5' 8" wide. Chances of Nissan bringing a concept car, possibly derived from the URGE shown in Detroit last year, to October's Tokyo Motor Show? 60-percet according to the magazine. [Source: Best Car]

The onyl thing that saddens me about these new coupes is that they are based on sedan platforms. Which means high beltlines. Being a shorter guy, high beltlines suck even more.
It sounds as if the Toyota/Suby RWD car may have it's own platform, so there's at least a chance there that it could be more slung. I think that's one of the main reasons why so many people don't like the look of newer cars. That and A-Pillars pushed too far forward.

I wonder how long it will take for some to say, "It looks like a _____ had sex with a ______..." It gets tiring reading those responses.

It gets tiring seeing the same old car designs over and over again. When car designers grow some balls and come out with something new then you will stop hearing that.

The Japanese have never been known for innovative car design in America. They are generally to reserved. They dont like risks!
