Some J30s had HICAS, in that case the rear upright is fitted with a balljoint instead of a toe arm bushing so it's useless.
If you saw a solid axle under one, it wasn't a J30. Possibly an I30 or something else closely related. All J30s were RWD with fully independant suspension.
