1970-mid 72 240z 2350lb car 2.4 liter 6cylinder L24 engine putting out 150hp, mid 72 weight of the car increased to 2750(same weight as the s13 hatch)
73 was last model year of the 240z same engine but with flattop SU carbs instead of round tops.still150Hp car weighed in at 2900lbs
1974 only model year of the 260z . 2.6 liter L26 basically the most versatile of of L series six's . Had a L28 size crank and rod with 2.4 liter size pistons giving it a broad flat torque and HP band engine put out 160HP but the weight of the car had gone up again. 3000lbs
1975 debut of the 280z carburated version 2.8 liter L28 engine putting out 170 HP again though the weight of the car had gone up it now weighed in at 3150lbs i.e. Nissan had turned the American version into a pig. why ? federal crash safty standards that were phased in in the 1970's here in the states.
In Japan the Z or Fairlady got the bigger engine options but stayed in the same weight range of the original 240z.
in 1976-77 Nissan would introduce the first fuel Injected L28's
. in 1979 we would see the first 280zx again the car got heavier and more luxurious it would also soon get the first of the Z car Turbo setups with the L28 Turbo. Unfortunately I do not have HP figures for that engine because . At that time I was still playing with 240z's and everyone was either building NA engines or putting V8's in (Scarabs).
The Turbo engine craze had yet to catch on here in the states. Over the course of the next decade that would start to change . Ah but thats a whole nother story <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>
