I say lose it. I hate AC, although with a baby on the way I don't know if I should pull mine out just yet
Its pretty easy to take it out, just the hoses and fans in the nose of the car are a pain to get at. The system does weight a ****load.
When I took the engine out of my 89 SOHC I called a friend with a Freon hose that hooks up to all kinds of cars and allows you to xfer it to one car to the other, so everyone benefits. You get rid of your Freon and they get theirs recharged. I bet Pep Boys or Checkers sells them, just ask any local parts store.
