the welded diff doesnt allow the inside wheel to spin and a diffierent speed the the outside wheel, it DOES NOT AFFECT the front wheels. youd will eat tires alive with a welded.
welded diff is best for a KA, with lower power because the diff will create and easier initiation because of the loss of traction (wheel hop) on the inside wheel
a vlsd is best for a CA, SR or most other turbocharged/boosted motors, because, just power over
in my previous experience, a welded differential isnt a bad choice, use it while saving for a 2 way
