The only way you could add preload and lower the car is... if the you have all collars removed and the coil collar is bottomed out against the strut mount. Then when you compress the spring you can run the strut mount up higher. Most coilovers are stiff enough that they dont have much spring compression from the weight of the car, so one wont gain much height by preloading but should over come that and some by raising the strut mount on the shock body.
