I'd start with checking cranking voltage at the S terminal at the starter first during cranking when it acts up.

For starter removal
-Disconnect Battery
-Remove 12mm head nut holding 6 gauge wire to starter
-Remove 8mm head nut holding starter solenoid wire
-Remove upper starter bolt from above 14mm.
-Remove lower starter bolt (can do it above if manual or below if auto) 14mm
