If you want to keep your s14SR long you wont do too many upgrades. everything on those cost more and is a pain to tune. I had my engine built by Matt importintellegence who used to build JR Gittin's exhibition s3 and always used the s13 because it didnt take much to get the hp the wanted because you dont have to deal with the variable valve timing and for the fact that all parts are more expensive.
In my opinion the s13 blacktop is the best because ith has more HP than the red top and no variable valves.

oh wait the LS-1 is lighter than the KA's and the eng will probably last longer.
but ID sticking whith the VK56DE in my S14
I heard you could put an ej25 in an s13
