Brooks had Scott Jurek help design this shoe. Uses a "concave outsole" to allow a better feel of the trail. Brooks states that this is the shoe "For runners who want increased connection to their unique environment but feel trail shoes put too much shoe between them and the trail." Construction of the upper is a tighter mesh to allow for less dirt entry. Very thin rubber outsole, I'd assume very little protection from rocks, but the tread DOES protrude around 1/4"-1/2", so it's hard to say without running them.
