I know a lot or road race guys prefer depowered or non P/S. For drifting i havent tried non P/S but I did go on a leaking rack and i did start to feel it get heavy towards the end (reservoir a little less than half at this point). The S14 P/S is actually very good and doesnt disconnect the steering feel as much as in other cars.
Road race people rarely turn the wheel more than half a turn in either direction.. When you drift the wheels are slamming from lock to lock (or atleast close to that) the entire time. Not to mention in order to throw the car or start a transition you kinda have to jerk the wheel would be harder without p/s. And as for the spinning wheel cutting your thumb of, its much easier to stop the wheel with power steering.
