If you have bad stuff going on up there, then you made a good choice by not rotating the crank. Taking the cams out without being at TDC on isn't going to mess up anything... That is only important when putting it all back together. Remove everything per the FSM, and take it to the pros to have everything measured out/machined etc. Since your knowledge seems limited, it may be a good idea for you to have a mechanic put the block/head back together for you; or make sure you do it in the company of someone who knows the ins/outs of the task at hand.
