If and when the ability to travel to the past is available, it would be literally the greatest responsibility of all time
not to destroy everything. So the only reasonable thing to do would be to set a limit on when in time you can travel back to, of course to be reasonable, a time before the discovery of traveling into the past would be off limits so we would not be visited, ever.
Or perhaps we were visited, which changed the course of history enough to actually deter the discovery of time travel or set back the discovery.
Theories are always very interesting to me.
P.S. if time travel is possible today, neither you nor I would know.
