wheel fitment

Im trying to understand fitment of wheels on a 89 240sx 4x114.3. I really never cared about wheels before so for years I never even tried to understand it. After having this car for 11 years I think its time for me to get some new wheel though.

What should I be looking for?

I have looked around at sites that sale rims and I see that 17x7.5 +45 size is in the range that I should be looking at but I have no idea how they would set or if they would clear my suspension. I also would prefer not to roll the fenders, but if it severely limits my choice I may have to.

Would it be better to bring my car into a shop to try some on or is it fairly easy to tell by the size if they are going to fit right?

Im pretty much want a 17 in wheel. I think 18s would fit easy but im not that into large wheels really....but if it would fill the wheel well up better I would prob consider it. Just to give you an idea of what I would like.

I do have tierod spacers on my car if that changes wheels that would fit because of the increased steering angle.

Thanks for any help, website, or whatever info you can give me to get me going in the right direction.
