Same, after doing the whole used tire constantly changing them I got over it and figured that I would save atleast $200 by buying new tires and having them mounted once and not have to purchase another pair for atleast 4months.

Not to mention I can run 60psi and not have to worry about the tire exploding. Or having enough tire to drive home on etc.

Your KA sounds like it could use a Tune up or some help.
Any mods as far as that goes?
A simple exhsut shop 3" Exhaust from the Header back and a nice 2.75" Intake can do wonders on a KA. Advance timing to 25* and you should have a nice power increase.
