Shop informed me today that the ring and pinion don't match apparently. the ring installs on the hlsd perfectly and the pinion mounts in the s15 housing just fine but then the hlsd doesnt fit into the housing due to the ring and pinion. its a 46:13 set and they are indeed that many teeth. wonderful. here we go again.
for reference, the "3.69 S15 ring and pinion" ive had for a couple months laying around was installed in place of the 4.10 set that was in a complete s15 diff assembly i bought that hadnt been taken apart ever. straight from japan. and i checked to see if i mixed em up with the j30 ring/pinion or the z33 ring/pinion. i have not. im picking it up from the shop tomorrow to look it over myself and see what i can find out. i doubt they are doing it wrong, but you never know.
