You should also dump your oil and inspect for metal particles in the oil. Try not to turn it on until you inspect everything. If you don?t find any broken pieces or loose parts under the valve cover another culprit might be your oil pump going out, not bringing oil to the head and chain tensioners not doing what they r supposed to be doing

Is there a way to check an oil pump? Don?t have a spare one. Your post has me hoping I might not have blown the motor yet. The sound doesn?t go away with the higher rpms btw and doesn?t go away when I unplug the cylinders one by one.
