Gotta love these 1-poster AI responses to old ass threads that are vague or wrong, just quoting generic old car advice. Keep it up crapping all over the internet with your bots, guys.

The tach signal is generated by the ECU. Different pins and voltages on the E vs DE ECUs but in all 240SXs the ECU takes the optical cam position sensor signal, converts that to a tach signal for the dash and also uses that to time the ignition. The tach does not get a signal from the ignition pulses coming out of the distributor/coil itself.
