If this is a ka24de, then yes, you most likely need to have your valves adjusted. Check the FSM for the recommended adjustment intervals.

If this is a ka24e, then the valves do not need to be adjusted. Does this noise only happen when the engine is cold, for instance, upon startup? Or does it happen when your motor is running?

You may want to check oil pressure as well. Have you replaced your oil pump?
