An earthquake shook a wide area of Southern California today but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
It was the third significant quake to affect California since Sunday when a magnitude-5.2 quake shook the Anza area of Riverside County. A 7.0 quake struck Tuesday night 90 miles off Northern California.
The latest quake was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego and in counties to the east.
The 1:53 p.m. quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 and was centered near Yucaipa in San Bernardino County east of Los Angeles, according to the automated seismic network operated by the U.S. Geological Survey, California Institute of Technology and other institutions.
Experts are advising everyone in the southern california area to brace themselves for a major earthquake to happen within the next 24 hours, estimated magnitude of 8.1-9.5. Evacuations are taking place in Cities across the eastern counties.
