Having larger rotors does have advantages. While it does increase unsprung weight, and there is no additional friction material, the caliper is able to exert a greater torque on the wheel since it is located farther from the center of rotation, increasing braking force while allowing for more heat dissipation. However, our cars are so light that I don't think it is worth it.
