It sounds like your installing a stereo to me... except the shift boot thing. Are you trying to remove the actual leather boot or the plastic piece around it? If its the plastic piece, just grab the insides and pull up and kinda forward. As for the vent piece, just point your vents down (makes it easy to get your fingers in there) and pull/wiggle straight out. dont pull to hard or you will rip the wires out. (the piece doesn't come all the way out either...it just kinda hangs there because of the wires...but it should be enough to get to whatever it is your trying to do)
