Here's kinda the answer. Grey Goose is a premium vodka due to price and marketing only. I don't know true vodka drinkers that touch the stuff, and personally, would put it as a well drink. So yes, I think the average person drinking it straight would realize it's a crummy vodka. In fact, I think that 20/20 taste test had Popov (to me, a horrid vodka only useful due to price and quantity). And I believe that Popov was rated higher than Grey Goose. I'd kinda like to find the clip online, but no luck yet.
