I have had the Denso's in for 10000mi and they are fantastic; no problems at all!
NGK-R's = $3-4 each
NGK-V's = $2-3 each
Denso's = $2-3 each

thats only for s14's. S13's recommned copper plugs.
Actually copper plugs are better for performance, platinum is just for extended life of the plug.. Putting platinum plugs in a car is one reason why so many new car company's have 100,000 miles till first tune up
