Look up the Midwestern Council in google (don't have their webpage link on hand). They are a council comprised of 9 local clubs in the midwest, with several around chicago. Local clubs will hold smaller events on a local level and as a group they are able to host much larger scale events (high speed autox, driving schools, and w2w) on tracks like Blackhawk farms, Grattan, Road America and Gingerman. That's the basics of it anyway.
Join a local club in the MC and you are automatically a member of both (as well as the SCCA I believe). It's only like a $40 per year membership charge and usually the cost of entering two events as a member "pays you back" versus entering as a non member. Plus you'll meet lots of other car nuts, recieve newsletters and your very own copy of the GCR (rulebook), in theory anyway. I think Travis is still waiting on his GCR, I've had mine for 2 months.
