Wastegates are all "mechanical". They are operated by boost pressure opening a spring/valve which allows exhaust pressure to be released, thereby controlling the amount of boost the turbo produces. A boost controller will be fine for the stock wastegate. You just hook it up to the actuator and boost away.
Keep in mind that the stock turbo is only good to MAYBE 14 psi. Mine is at 10 psi right now, and above about 6 grand, it's not making much power...lots of hot air.
