The best path for success is to decide early what your goals are, as few parts (the exhaust will do double duty) carry over between an CA, SR, KA, and KA-T. The KA-T and KA will have a bit more in common as you can do cams and build the motor, but the path for an NA car and turbo car will obvisouly have differing goals on internal work.
Many members have followed one bolt on path (KA) only to switch a year or two down the road after spending half the value of an SR on parts that won't carry over.
I don't know if there is a well defined list as many of us have differing plans for our cars (auto-x, drifting, drag racing, looking pretty, SR, KA, KA-T), but enough info exists on this and other boards to steer you in the right direction to meet your goals.
