iirc the timing procedure goes something like this... warm the motor, unplug the tps, rev the motor to 2-3k & let stabilize, adjust idle to 650-ish RPM using IACV screw, rev the motor to 2-3k & let stabilize, adjust distributor until timing is 20-ish degrees btdc, tighten distributor, reconnect tps. Double check the FSM for the procedure, it's in there. The marks on the crank pulley are for, +5, 0, -5, -10, -15, -20.
And here is a trick I came up with to help see where the timing pin lines up on the marks...
You should also check your MAF wiring and connections (2500 limit = safe mode?). Never hurts to pull the codes from the ECU, it could help point you in the right direction.
