This is true - however they're all lighter weight than normal (except the 3kgt), have beefy internals, not filled with electronics, and completely overengineered. (I was mostly thinking of the SW20 MR2, FD RX7, and S13 240) There isn't that much of a choice now - you've got the Evo and STi if you want to make power cheap.
