Hey Ray... you have it backwards. If it makes noise without having your foot on the clutch, it's a bearing inside the transmission, and not the throwout/release bearing, since the release bearing is not contacting the pressure plate fingers and making the bearing spin (that's why there's about a 1/4 inch of freeplay in the clutch pedal at the top. When you start feeling resistance in the clutch pedal, that's when the release bearing contacts the pressure plate). If it makes noise when you have your foot on the clutch pedal and transmission in neutral, then it is the release bearing. If it only makes noise with your foot on the clutch pedal while you have the transmission in gear, then it is the pilot bearing.
