I've never used knockoff ebay shifters, But I know my B&Mv2 works great. Some people who fail at life keep mis-shifting while the girly girls say it's too notchy and hard to change gears.

In a way it would put more wear because you give the syncro less time to bring the speed gear up in rpms so it can engage without grinding. With good fluid in there it shouldn't be a problem. There is also less leverage with a shortshifter because of where the pivot or fulcrum is. In a truck with a standard transmission with the shifter coming out of the floor you can put a ton of stress on the transmission because of how long the shifter is. So in all I think it kinda balances out with regards to wear on the tranny. As long as you shift properly and the maintenance is kept up there shouldn't be any problems.
