If you landed a great career and had the money, wouldn't you want your kids to have nice things? Especially if they go to a school where you have to have expensive clothes and accessories in order to be accepted, however wrong that may be, but you wouldn't want your kid to be the one who gets picked on. A child is kind of like a representation of the parent.

I can see what you're saying, but i just don't know. If i had kids, i wouldn't want them hanging out with people who would judge them based on their material possessions. Because that's what my kids would learn, and that's all that would be important to them. I want my kids to learn the value of character, not vanity.
My family isn't rich at all, but my mom is working her ass off to help me through college. I have a job, and i pay for everything i WANT, but she pays for most of the stuff i NEED. That's how i intend to raise my kids. It's important to know how hard it is to make money, because then you'll understand how hard it has been for the people in your life to help you along the way.
