Lol. Ran into this problem when tryin to complete it for the Falken Drift Showoff here.
Anyway, you basically have to make sure your T.O is on correctly and pushed back, because one bump and it falls off, so you'll have to make sure it stays on.
Next, when puttin the tranny back on the shaft, make sure it fits inside the hole. The shaft will sit sometimes on the pressure plate, but you dont want to do that, or it'll bend those fingers. It works better with two people (in my place i did it myself so its doable).
When you have it in place on the shaft then, you literally have to shake that tranny til it goes on there so that the teeth'll meet together and the tranny will slide right on. Make sure its lubed up too, without it, its hard.
Try that and see if that helps.
