I think you should DEFINITELY check the following:

oil weight is too heavy to crank engine
poor spark(fouled plugs?)
poor fuel pressure(clogged injectors or fuel filter?)

I did like the suggestion above about "pre-starting" the fuel pump to prime the system pressure.  I will have to remember that for the future.

Just curious, what part of the country are you in?
