you just take a ratchet and loosen. If that doesn't work like said above get a breaker bar. Or put some PB blaster on it. If they are stripped go to sears and get the tool that takes off stripped nuts. (it works great).
Better yet, just give me your hatch and I'll show you how to when I put it on my car.
