Yes, USE the tire size calculator.  All the sizes you mentioned are too short.  Seems to be a common theme here.  This ain't a Civic, you can put some real meat in the fenders.

A 225/50-16 will fit on a 16x7 wheel just fine.  In fact 7" is the recommended rim width for many 225/50-16 tires.
