To the op: check the starter using a screwdriver

To Projekt s13: Did you know that in the mid 70's GM actually called the little metal exhaust donut a muffler bearing? Straight from the manufacterers specs. :| lawl at that.

smoke coulda been from the blinker fluid getting on the manifold.. that can do it.

But seriously.. check the starter incase it has fried before buying parts.
