they had FMICs back then too but not as common as now. either they were designed not to cut the battery tray or much smaller. if you look at eraly 90 bumpers, they design for air flow was difference, hence why people cut the chuuki bumper up, taht wasnt as common.
also high HP #s were as common as well, so a FMIC wasnt as necessary.
there were FMIC. actually if you look in the 180sx hyper rev at company cars, most dont have FMIC. just larger SMICs.
old school styled cars that are around today have new ways sort of setups (large FMICs) because they are pushing more power and require it.
edit: also about exhaust. the older school (early 90s) had more larger muffler exhaust. now is that angled smaller muffler, larger tip, louder, deeper style. if you've seen my exhaust, its old school. early 90s RS*R exhaust. i am upgrading to a turbo RS*R one though (eventually), new style. the times are a changin my friends. or so i was told......
