as has been stated before, take the class, it had ALL sorts of benefits from cheaper insurance to the fact that IF you do get pulled over and the cops see you took the class they are more likely to go easy on you and give you a warning. As for good starter bikes, a full out street bike is not good to learn on, the ninja 250 is ok, but I'd go with a more streetable bike like a suzuki sv650 or a honda blackhawk.
