kind of dumb EGR question....

I removed my EGR valve today to replace it with a brand new one. I'm not sure where it leads to, I believe Exhaust Manifold but the spot that the EGR hooks up to the engine is REALLY dirty inside. I was wondering, is there any way to clean it up in there before i put the new EGR in? Like some way of flushing all the dirt out or something? I know it might be a dumb question, but hey any help is appreciated. Thanks
