The worst are the fake Japanese plates you can buy... They don't look real in the slightest! They don't even use the correct green paint for the digits, always black.
A legit Japanese plate is a nice collectible, something to throw on your car if you take it to car shows, not something to run on the street in the US, bottom line.
It's nothing new or "rice" to want them, either... The German car fans I know have been running plates from der Vaterland for years as a show thing. It's a wink and a nod to your car's heritage.
