overheating issues

ok so my sohc has taken a turn for the worst, ill start out by saying i have a 89 240sx with the stock ka24e 200k+ miles. anyways my water pump went out i replaced it, to find out that my radiator is also cracked. i replace my radiator get my car up and running. shortly after replacing the radiator i noticed lots of white smoke coming out of my exhaust when warming up for the first couple of minutes. i thought its just steam and the cold weather so i let it warm up, no water leaking from under so i go around the block for a test drive. right from the start i noticed my car running like shit, rpm's all over the place when idling, and real rough on low rpm's. so driving no more than 3 or 4 blocks my temp is about 2 lines away from the bold H lines. i get home real quick to check it out and i notice that a bit of oil has leaked from the left side of the valve cover. so i try and start up again and its not starting, its at the verge of starting but it doesn't. i let it sit for a bit, and it starts up with the white smoke again, so i let it idle for a good 15 minutes the white smoke goes away, and its at the normal temp about the second line. i go around the block again and the temp goes up to the same H point as before. can you guys please help me out.
