More than likely your tach is toast. Mine did this a couple of years ago and I just replaced it. Worked like a charm after that. Just take apart another cluster and swap the tachs out so your speedo has the correct mileage on it. Takes an hour at most. Check the classifieds or ebay. You should be able to find a new cluster for cheap.
