check timing, ignition is the key to a healthy car
change fuel filter, can cause stumbling and hesitation at high rpm due to lack of fuel/ backed up filter
change spark plugs, and gap them to .030. very critical if your ignition system is weak, car is old so nothing is factory spec.
Change oil, and make sure there are no vacuum leaks
