The way I have heard it explained is the more octane, the slower burn, and the more heat it can endure until ping's.. so that is why race cars with timing, boost's, nos.. so that they can run MORE or what they do already with out ping.. I have always been told to run the least octane with out pinging.. that will result in the best performance.. but whatever works for you..
