In every situation I've PERSONALLY seen, if its the knock sensor it throws a engine code. Also I don't "beleive" under normal conditions the knock sensor would effect your driving. It's suppose to (i think retard) your timing if you start getting pings.

Don't trust me on that, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
