With both you've got them wedged against each other, preventing the axle from turning. It's basically two thick pieces of rubber jammed together. Pull the axle back out and remove one, either one, from each side. I like the idea of the seal in the upright personally so I pry the OE seal off the axle. Depends on condition, yours may be damaged and would warrant keeping the axle seal instead. J30 uprights have the same problem, I did a set three weeks ago and forgot during the install.
