Well notchy would be the opposite of a nice smooth shift. The stock would be loose at best. The B&M (the first version at least), when I had it was 'notchy'. It took a little effort to get it into gear, and you could 'feel' where the gear was so to speak. Nice and sporty feel, but a bit rough around the edges, ya know?
