I don't think he ruined anything, USA put on a good show through the first two rotations while China faltered. But since rotation 3 China's only gotten 1 score below a 16 (a 15.9xx), totally outclassing the field. besides, US's prelim scores put them in realistic contention for the bronze only, though with 2 of their more experienced gymnasts out, it's been a good show for the US.
